Introduction
The North East (NE) of India comprising the eight states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura and Sikkim, is a reservoir of rich natural resources and a beautiful amalgamation of different people and cultures. It indeed is a region waiting to happen. Blessed with biodiversity, huge hydro-energy potential, oil and gas, coal, limestone, forest wealth, fruits and vegetables, flowers, herbs and aromatic plants, and rare and rich flora and fauna, NE India has all the potential to transform into a commercial hub and tourist paradise.
Northeast region of India has access to domestic and international markets (Bangladesh, Myanmar, Tibet, and Southeast Asia). It is a Biodiversity hotspot, having a number of speciality indigenous crop varieties, spices, and medicinal plants. Moreover, it has a strong traditional handloom and handicrafts sector, sericulture, textiles, and bamboo industries.
