2nd highest contributor to India's IT exports

Telangana's capital, Hyderabad, is a major IT hub of the country. The state also contributes nearly one-third to India’s production and one-fifth to its exports in the pharmaceutical sector.

The state has a road network of over 27,600 km, with 24 national highways (NH) and an international airport in Hyderabad that connect it with major domestic and international markets. The state has an installed power capacity of over 15,000 MW, with over 40% contribution from green energy sources. There are 67 notified Special Economic Zones (SEZ) in the state. 

The state is one of the leading producers and exporters of horticulture crops, including lemons, oranges and turmeric among others. Sericulture and fisheries are other sustainable sectors, with the state having the third largest pool of inland fisheries resources in the country. The state has a large number of manufacturing units in pharmaceuticals, food processing, non-metallics minerals, plastics and electrical equipment sectors. The world's largest film studio complex, Ramoji Film City, is also based out of Hyderabad.

Telangana State Industrial Project Approval and Self-certification System (TS-iPASS) Act in 2014 to provide clearances to mega projects within 15 days and projects of other nature within 30 days, i.e., shortest in the country. The state is also the only one in the country to have introduced the 'Right to Clearance' for industrialists to get industrial clearances. Telangana has attracted investments worth $11.5 bn since the launch of its new Industrial Policy in 2015. The state has remained in the top two names for Ease of Doing Business in India consecutively for last three years.

Information Technology

Telangana contributes to 10% in India’s IT exports and Hyderabad is the 2nd largest contributor to revenues from IT exports of the country.

The state houses over 1,500 IT/ITeS companies. During 2016-17, the value of IT exports from the state was recorded at $ 12.7 bn.

Metals and Minerals

Granite, coal, limestone, bauxite and mica are the major mineral resources in Telangana.

Much of the mineral wealth of the state like granite, quartz and silica-sand is exported in raw form. State coal deposits account for 20% share in India’s coal deposits. The mining industry in the state grew at 17% in 2016-17.

Life Sciences

Hyderabad district in Telangana contributes over 30% of the pharmaceutical production of the country and accounts for 44% share in the total exports of the state.

Genome Valley in Hyderabad is the first and only systematically planned and developed cluster dedicated to life sciences in the country.

Textiles

Telangana is home to about 49,112 power looms and 627 weavers cooperative societies.

The state has more than 120,000 handloom weavers in all and will be home to India’s largest textile park, which is coming up in Warangal. Telangana is also planning to establish 9 leather parks across the state.

Demographics

About 70% of Telangana's population is in the working age group of 15-59 years.

Telangana's population of 35 mn is equivalent to the population of Morocco. The state is home to about 2.7% of the country's total population.
