8 mn tourist arrivals in 2018, five times the population of Goa

Goa attracts a large number of tourists from across the globe and is accessible through an international airport. International carriers operate around 500 air charter flights between Goa and countries such as Germany, Russia, the UK, Sweden, Switzerland, Finland and Norway.

Goa is a coastal state located in Western India. Goa is accessible through sea-route and has a presence of one of the 12 major ports in India at Mormugao. The state is also well-connected through rail and road routes. The National Highway-17 connects Goa with Mumbai in Maharashtra and other major cities in Karnataka. 

The state is richly endowed with minerals such as iron ore, manganese, ferro-manganese, bauxite and silica sand. It has about 23 industrial estates established by Goa Industrial Development Corporation. Goa has installed power capacity to produce 581 MW.

Goa is the most urbanized state in India with one of the highest per capita Net State Domestic Product in the country.

Tourism is the highest contributor to Goa's GSDP under the service sector.

The state recorded tourist arrivals of 8 mn in 2018, growing more than 150%. The sector is expected to grow at 13%.  The state hosts multiple social and cultural events on a global scale annually.

IT and ITeS

As per state budget 2016-17, Government of India granted the approval to the state government for constructing the Electronics Manufacturing Cluster in Tuem.

Goa released its new IT policy 2018 with a vision to generate 10,000 additional jobs in the state.



<p>Goa is a key exporter of pharmaceutical products, and over 90% of the formulations manufactured are exported.</p>

The pharmaceutical industry is one of the major employers in the state, which is home to over 70 pharmaceutical companies, ith estimated yearly revenues of more than Rs. 7,500 crores ($ 1.35 billion). The industry is growing at a rate of about 15% annually.



Iron ore exports from the state increased from 0.6 mn tonnes in 2014-2015 to 9.93 mn tonnes in 2017-2018, thereby witnessing 16X growth.

The mining belt of Goa covers an area of approximately 700 sq km and is mostly concentrated in Bicholim, Salcete, Sanguem and Quepem.
