Goa: Six mn tourist arrivals in 2016, five times its population
Goa has well-connected rail and road routes. Being a coastal state, it is also accessible through sea-route and by airways. International carriers operate around 500 air charter flights between Goa and countries like the UK, Germany, Russia, Sweden, Switzerland, Finland, and Norway. The National Highway-17 connects Goa with Mumbai in Maharashtra and other major cities in Karnataka. There are 22 existing industrial estates in Goa, established by Goa Industrial Development Corporation. The state is home to one of the 12 major ports of India, at Mormugao. Total forest cover of Goa spreads across more than 1,424 sq km, covering almost one-third of the state's geographical area, and provides products such as bamboo, Maratha barks, Chillar barks and bhirand. Major minerals produced in Goa include iron ore, manganese, ferro-manganese, bauxite and silica sand.

Tourism is the highest contributor in the service sector to the state GDP. There were about 6mn tourists arrivals in 2016 and the sector recorded a growth of 20%. The state hosts multiple social and cultural events on global scale.
As per state budget 2016-17, Government of India granted the approval to the state government for constructing the Electronics Manufacturing Cluster in Tuem by providing a central assistance of USD 7.6 mn to the state government.
Export of pharmaceutical products from Goa was recorded to be 5,076 metric tonnes during 2015-16. The pharmaceutical industry is one of the major employers in the state.
The mining belt of Goa covers an area of approximately 700 sq km and is mostly concentrated in Bicholim, Salcete, Sanguem and Quepem. Iron ore exports from the state increased from 0.60 mn tonnes in 2014-15 to 3.57 mn tonnes in 2015-16, thereby witnessing a huge growth.
