The COVID19 Health pandemic in the country and the consequent lockdown has impacted many daily wage earners and migrant laborers. Touched by the visuals of masses of people going hungry and homeless, a group of 40 to 50 IRS officers from the Karnataka and Goa region came together to set up the K&G IRS COVID Relief Initiative.
The K&G IRS COVID Relief Initiative works to provide cooked meals to those most affected by the lockdown. These IRS officers work collaboratively with BBMP (Bengaluru Municipal Corporation) and the Attria Foundation (NGO) to pool together their resources to arrange and distribute cooked meals to areas in need. These IRS officers believe that it is their duty to help society those who find themselves unable to support themselves in these trying times.
This initiative has seen an exponential increase in the number of people they have managed to feed as an increasing number of organizations have come forward to work with this relief initiative. On 1 April they were able to distribute 500 meals to the labourers at Bommasandra, on 2 April this was scaled up to 2700 meals and on 3 April the distribution chain had 3500+ meals ready for distribution.
There are many such stories across India where people have taken on the initiative to make a difference and help those in need. Governments at the State and Central Level have set up Relief Funds where donations can be made by those looking to join this fight against COVID19, there are also numerous NGOs that are helping provide food and shelter to those in need across the country. Both Government’s and NGO’s need as much assistance from every one of us.
