Sikkim exhibits diverse climatic conditions from tropical moist to temperate and alpine zones. Agriculture is the primary occupation of the inhabitants of the state.

The major crops of the state include rice, maize, tea, soybean, ginger, orange, pears, potato and tomato. The state is richly endowed with rare and exotic flora and fauna, which includes 5,000 species of flowering plants, 515 rare orchids, 60 primula species & 36 rhododendron species.  Sikkim is also environmentally responsible state taking major steps to help it develop into a tourism haven.

Sikkim enjoys a strategic locational advantage, sharing its boundary with Bhutan, China and Nepal. Teesta and Rangeet are the two major rivers flowing through the state with nearly a hundred tributaries. The potential entrepreneurs can explore many profitable business opportunities in Sikkim as the state has one of India's largest concentrations of healthcare and pharma manufacturing companies in a state.

Independent power producers have approved 29 hydroelectric power plants for development in the state. These projects are at various stages of construction and would have an installed capacity of around 5,350 MW when completed.

The Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, has awarded the capital city of Sikkim, Gangtok, with the title of 'Safest Tourist Destination' in the country

The state witnessed arrival of 16.25 Lakh domestic tourists and 68,600 foreign tourists in 2022 as per the Tourism Statistics 2023.

Sikkim is notable for its biodiversity, including alpine and subtropical climates, as well as being a host to Kangchenjunga, the highest peak in India and third highest on Earth. Almost 35% of the state is covered by the Khangchendzonga National Park. The 135 feet tall statue of Guru Padmasambhava is situated at Samdruptse, South Sikkim.

Investor-friendly policies with ease of doing business, attractive tax incentives and low cost of manufacturing and labour have made Sikkim favoured destination for pharmaceutical companies

Sikkim, bestowed with abundant natural resources, is now home to more than 15 major pharma companies. These include units by Cipla, Sun Pharma, Zydus Cadila, Alkem Lab, Intas Pharma, Torrent Pharmaceuticals , Unichem, etc.

The state's population is projected to be 667,000 in 2019. Female workforce participation ratio in Sikkim is as high as 68.7% as compared to national average of 38.5%.
