About the Department

Invest India is the National Investment Promotion and Facilitation Agency under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. It hosts teams working with various government initiatives such as Make in India, Startup India, AGNii, and PMG.

The Retail Expert will lead the retail strategy and implementation for the One District One Product (ODOP) initiative, focusing on expanding the reach of district-centric products through retail channels. This role involves collaborating with key stakeholders and implementing innovative retail strategies to increase sales and visibility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Retail Chains and Stores: Establish partnerships with retail chains and stores to showcase and sell ODOP products.
  • Central, State, and District Authorities: Coordinate with government bodies to align retail strategies with policies and regulations and access resources and support.
  • Artisans, Farmers, and Producers: Work closely with local producers to understand their products, challenges, and needs for retail integration.
  • Retail Strategy Development: Lead the development and implementation of retail strategies to increase sales and visibility of ODOP products in retail stores.
  • Partnership Management: Identify and manage relationships with retail chains and stores to showcase and sell ODOP products.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Collaborate with government authorities, producers, and retail partners to ensure alignment and support for retail initiatives.
  • Market Analysis: Conduct market research to identify consumer trends and opportunities for expanding the retail presence of ODOP products.
  • Merchandising and Promotion: Work with marketing teams to create retail-specific merchandising and promotion strategies.
  • Collaborating with International Retail Chains: Identifying and collaborating with international chains to increase the global reach of ODOP products.
  • Sales Monitoring: Monitor sales performance and analyze data to optimize product placement and promotional strategies.
  • Retail Expansion: Expand the retail presence of ODOP products through effective retail strategies.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure their involvement and support for retail initiatives.
  • Brand Development: Enhance the visibility and brand image of ODOP products in the retail space.
  • Retail Experience: Strong understanding of retail trends and strategies.
  • Stakeholder Management: Ability to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders, including government authorities and local producers.
  • Strategic Thinking: Capacity to develop and execute strategic plans to meet sales targets and enhance brand visibility.


  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field. 
  • Professional with 4-6 years of experience in retail, with a demonstrated ability to drive sales growth.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills, with a results-oriented approach.
  • Experience working with MSMEs is a plus.
