About the Department

Invest India is the National Investment Promotion and Facilitation Agency under the Department of Promotion for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. It hosts teams working with various government initiatives such as Make in India, Startup India, AGNii, and PMG.

The Project Monitoring Group (PMG), Invest India is an institutional mechanism for the expedited resolution of issues and regulatory bottlenecks in projects with investments upward ₹ 500 Cr. in India. It was set up as a special cell in the Cabinet Secretariat, Government of India in 2013 and was subsequently brought under the administrative control of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) in 2015. Currently, PMG is situated at Invest India, Department of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce. This relocation was enabled in order to create a one-stop facilitation destination for investors at all stages of the investment process, including issue resolution.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Manage a multi-state, multi-sector portfolio of mega infrastructure projects
  • Develop an end-to-end understanding of your portfolio (its background, key regulatory bottlenecks) and keep abreast of the latest developments
  • Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with the relevant state & central officials and project proponents
  • Lead high level review meetings with senior leadership from state governments and central ministries to resolve issues and ensure timely commissioning of mega projects
  • Be the sectoral lead for one or more of PMG’s focus sector(s). Keep abreast of the latest related developments in the sector
  • Undertake policy research (primary & secondary) to identify bottlenecks in infrastructure development and reduce regulatory burden on industry to improve the business climate in the country
  • Assess best practices (global and domestic) which can be scaled up in the Indian context, develop business case for the same and present it to the senior leadership in the Nodal Ministry
  • Lead client engagement with the Nodal Ministry and coordinate with all internal and external stakeholders
  • Identify new avenues for the team to pursue

Qualifications

 

  • Masters in Relevant field such as Business Administration(MBA), Public Policy/Administration, Economics & BE/BTech from top colleges
  • 1-4 years of relevant experience (overall experience can be more) preferably in strategy consulting and policy research
  • Excellent research skills (primary & secondary)
  • Experience working with senior bureaucrats is necessary
  • Demonstrable fast learning curve (which can be translated to an ability to quickly understand multi-sectoral issues and related legislations)
  • Ability to pivot and work on new aspects in short duration
  • Ability to undertake data analysis in excel (using pivots etc) and generate graphs
  • Experience of working / running state / central government PMUs will be an added advantage
  • Experience in any of the infrastructure sectors (which PMG focusses on) / EoDB will be an added advantage
