Mumbai Trans Harbour Link

MMRDA

  • A 21.8 km six-lane sea bridge, connecting Mumbai with Navi Mumbai.
  • The bridge will begin in Sewri, South Mumbai — cross Thane Creek North of Elephanta Island — and will terminate at Chirle village, near Nhava Sheva.
  • It will be linked to Mumbai Pune Expressway in the East, and to the proposed Western Freeway in the West.
  • MMRDA awarded contracts for the project in November 2017; construction began in April 2018 and is scheduled to complete within four-and-a-half years. MMRDA estimates that 70,000 vehicles will use the bridge daily.
    • Larsen and Toubro, IHI Corporation, Daewoo E&C and Tata Projects are the contractors.
  • It will help decongest Mumbai and will also boost the real estate market of Navi Mumbai. It will reduce the commuting distance from Churchgate to Navi Mumbai from 40 minutes to 20 minutes.

Navi Mumbai International Airport

  • Started in February 2018, Navi Mumbai airport will be 1,160 hectares greenfield aerotropolis being built at Ulwe Kopar-Panvel in Maharashtra, India.
    • GVK-led MIAL, Zaha Hadid Architects and Central Water, Louis Berger and Power Research Station (CWPRS) got the contract for the same.
  • The project is likely to be operational by 2023. The first phase will handle 20 million passengers p.a. It will handle more than 90 million passengers p.a.
  • The project required the relocation of 2,786 households located across 10 villages—Chinchpada, Kopar, Kolhi, Ulwe, Upper Owale, Waghivalivada, Vaghivali, Ganeshpuri, Targhar, and Kombadbhuje.
  • Facilities at the airport will include cargo terminal buildings, two parallel runways for independent operations, taxiways, an apron area, cargo complex, aircraft maintenance site and long-term aircraft parking, as well as additional infrastructural facilities such as car parking, a power supply system and water treatment plant.

DMIC Development Corporation (DMICDC)

  • Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) is one of the most ambitious infrastructure projects in India. It will leverage 1,500 km long Western Dedicated Freight Corridor as its transportation backbone.
    • It includes 24 industrial regions, eight smart cities, two international airports, five power projects, two mass rapid transit systems, and two logistical hubs.
  • The eight investment regions proposed to be developed in Phase I of DMIC are Dadri-Noida-Ghaziabad (in UP), Manesar-Bawal (in Haryana), Khushkhera-Bhiwadi-Neemrana and Jodhpur-Pali-Marwar (in Rajasthan), Pithampur-Dhar-Mhow (in MP), Ahmedabad-Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR) in Gujarat, the Shendra-Bidkin Industrial Park, and Dighi Port Industrial Area in Maharashtra.

Mumbai Metro

Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (Line 3)

  • Mumbai Metro will help reduce traffic congestion in the city and supplement the overcrowded Mumbai Suburban Railway (colloquially called local trains) network.
  • It is being built in three phases over a 15-year period, with overall completion expected in 2025.
  • When completed, the core system will comprise eight high-capacity metro railway lines, spanning a total of 235 kilometres (24% underground, the rest elevated, with a minuscule portion built at-grade), and serviced by 200 stations.
  • Reliance Infrastructure, L&T, NCC Infra, JMC Projects, Simplex Infrastructures, PL-CHEC (a joint venture between Tata Projects and China Harbour Engineering Company), Mumbai-based J Kumar Infraprojects got the contracts for the project.

Mumbai Ahmedabad High Speed Rail

  • 530 km bullet train to cover distance between Mumbai-Ahmedabad in 2 hours.
  • 12 proposed stations along the route will include Bandra Kurla Complex, Thane, Virar, Boisar, Vapi, Bilimora, Surat, Bharuch, Baroda, Anand, Sabarmati and Ahmedabad.
  • Target to complete 1400 ha land acquisition for the project by Dec-18, appears ambitious to us; NHSRCL expects to commission the project by August 2022.
