In the year 2017, only 4 airports (Lucknow, Varanasi, Gorakhpur and Agra) were functional within Uttar Pradesh and a total of 25 destinations (15 from Lucknow, 8 from Varanasi, 1 from Gorakhpur, 1 from Agra) were connected by air services. At present, 9 airports have become functional from which more than 80 destinations are connected. Kushinagar International Airport was inaugurated by Hon’ble Prime Minister along with laying of foundation stone for upcoming Noida International Airport in Jewar which will put Uttar Pradesh on the global logistics map.

The state government is working towards completing 12 more airports at war footing, including two international aerodromes. The good governance of the state is reflected by the progress of the civil aviation industry in Uttar Pradesh, which is set to make the state have the largest number of international airports in the country.
