The Waste to Wealth Mission of the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India, in collaboration with the East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC), established a Decentralised Waste Management Technology Park in New Jaffrabad for onsite processing of daily 10-ton fresh municipal solid waste. The technology park has piloted five technologies with an integrated approach for a one-stop solution for processing incoming fresh waste.

The park is spread over 1000 sqm, with a semi-automated fresh solid waste segregation unit and onsite municipal solid waste (MSW) processing via gasifier and plasma pyrolysis. In addition, the site also has a facility for the treatment of wastewater to meet the site’s operational requirement and removal of floating plastic waste from a nearby drain, which is also processed with MSW at the site. Decentralised processing is a step toward converting open dumping grounds and “Zero Landfill” with the added advantage of the reduction in the transportation of the waste. The park was inaugurated by the K. Vijay Raghavan, Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India and Vikas Anand, Commissioner, EDMC.
