Healthcare is a prominent area of focus in Budget 2022. The budget emphasised digital healthcare and mental health and announced the launch of an open platform for the National Digital Health Ecosystem that will consist of digital registries of health providers and health facilities, unique health identity and universal access to health facilities.

The pandemic revealed several gaps in India's healthcare and Covid-19 further exacerbated risks associated with poor mental health. Recognising the urgent need to address this issue, Budget 2022 has brought the subject of mental health to the forefront. The government has announced a National Telemental Health Programme that would include a network of 23 excellent telemental health centres, with NIMHANS serving as the nodal centre and IIIT Bangalore providing technical support. This would improve access to quality mental health counselling and treatment services.

Finance Minister also lauded the efforts of the 112 districts that have made significant progress in health and infrastructure development.
