About the Department
Invest India is the National Investment Promotion and Facilitation Agency under the Department of Promotion for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. Invest India is mandated to drive Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) into the country.
Key Responsibilities
This will be a senior leadership role, reporting to the MD & CEO responsible for providing strategic direction, driving operational excellence, and contributing to the organization's mission of attracting investments. The person will play a crucial role in leading and managing teams, developing strategies, and collaborating with stakeholders to achieve Invest India's objectives.
Invest India is operationally structured across Country teams (responsible for generating leads), Sector teams (responsible for qualifying and nurturing the opportunities pipeline) and States team (responsible for landing the investment projects). This role is for leading the Country teams.
- Owner of Country teams : Monitor global trends, Trade and investment across geographies, exports and imports, FDI inward and outward, market dynamics and emerging opportunities, and provide insights that supports investment decisions and strategic planning. Bring focus to target countries and sectors. Bring competitive intelligence on Investment Promotion activities of other countries to the Stakeholders.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Cultivate strong relationships with embassies, missions abroad, government agencies, international organizations, bilateral industry associations, industry leaders, and foreign investors to foster partnerships that drive leads for investment opportunities. Develop and execute cohort strategies specific to target countries in chosen sectors.
- Investment Promotion: Work collaboratively with all stakeholders and the Marketing team to establish and execute Investment Promotion activities and campaigns. Design and execute targeted online and offline campaigns to showcase India's potential as an investment destination, highlighting key sectors, policies, and incentives. Formulate sector specific campaigns in select markets. Plan and execute international Roadshows. Leverage FTA / CEPAs to drive results.
- Deliver qualified Pipeline :. Work collaboratively with the Sector leads to generate & deliver qualified pipeline from select countries for target sectors. Support the States team, where necessary, to facilitate landing of investments.
- Support Investment Facilitation: Support the Sector and States team, where necessary, for providing end-to-end support to investors, addressing challenges, streamlining regulatory processes, and ensuring a conducive investment environment, for removing EODB challenges.
- Team Leadership: Build and lead a high-performing team, foster a collaborative and innovative work culture. Provide mentorship and guidance to team members, enable their professional growth, budget oversight, and risk management in international operations. Collaborate with HR to hire the best talent, establish meritocracy in all operations, retain performers, succession planning, handling of remote/ global teams, and continuously monitor steps to replace non-performers with competent team members.
- Performance Measurement: Define key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess the impact of country team, track progress, and report to senior leadership and relevant stakeholders. Collaborate with Sector and States team to help deliver organisational goals.
- Reporting: Prepare and present regular reports on investment promotion activities, campaigns, outcomes, and trends to the senior management, government officials, and stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Graduate or Master's degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Economics, Commerce, or a related field.
- A minimum of 20 years of experience in a leadership position in a large MNC or similar, demonstrating leadership and decision-making capabilities, hiring and building teams. Exposure and experience in handling international markets. Experience in working with governments is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and strategic direction to a diverse team, developing and executing effective strategies to achieve organizational goals. Experience in Business Development and Lead Generation is desirable.
- Strong ability to engage with high-level government officials, international organizations, industry leaders, and investors, with exceptional networking and relationship-building skills.
- Familiarity with India's regulatory environment and policy landscape and experience in advocating for policy reforms and regulatory improvements to enhance the ease of doing business and attract investments is desirable.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, analyzing economic trends and market insights fostering a results-oriented work culture, with a strong commitment to ethical practices, transparency, and integrity in all aspects of work.
