About the Department
Invest India is the National Investment Promotion and Facilitation Agency under the Department of Promotion for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. Invest India's work spans the entire spectrum of India's transformational business sectors implementing detailed India entry strategies and research, end-to-end handholding, and investment aftercare.
Position Overview:
This will be a key leadership role reporting directly to the Managing Director of Invest India, you will be a key driver in shaping and executing the agency's vision and strategic goals. You will play a pivotal role in driving investments, fostering innovation, and supporting startups in India and leading the effort for creation and operationalization of an India-focused startup fund while also leading our regional expansion efforts in western region. You would also be responsible to build ecosystems in identified growth areas of the country. With a view on global collaboration and leadership you would also lead the efforts to collaborate with global startup and innovation ecosystems
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership: Collaborate closely with the Managing Director to develop and implement the strategic direction of Invest India. Provide visionary leadership and drive initiatives to attract investments, support startups, drive innovations and promote economic growth.
- Startup India Initiatives: Provide the leadership to take Invest India’s Startup initiatives to the next level, build the vision and associated strategy for Startup sector for the upcoming years. Lead the team for development and execution of the Startup India initiatives, fostering a robust ecosystem for innovation, entrepreneurship, and technology-driven growth. Mentor and guide startups, design effective support programs, and create an environment conducive to startup success.
- Investment Fund Creation: Spearhead the establishment of an India-focused fund dedicated to supporting startups, innovation and scale. Collaborate with investors, financial institutions, and stakeholders to raise capital and create a sustainable funding mechanism.
- Ecosystem Initiatives: A key area of focus would be to collaborate with global startup and innovation ecosystems including but not limited to academic institutions, funds, corporates, incubators, etc. Also, on the domestic front build strategic ecosystems in identified growth areas for Invest India and industry alliances for innovation and collaboration.
- Regional Expansion: Oversee the expansion, operations and fulfillment of Invest India's initiatives/activities for impact in the Western Region. Identify regional investment opportunities, industry sectors, and projects for promotion and facilitation. Regional opportunity pipeline building and management, regional investment facilitation and policy support and Sectoral investment promotion in the sectors aligned for the western region.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Build and nurture relationships with government agencies, industry leaders, investors, startups, academia and ecosystem partners. Advocate for policies and reforms that enhance the investments, innovations and startup ecosystem.
- Team Leadership: Build, lead and inspire cross-functional high impact teams responsible for startup support, regional operations, and fund management including but not limited to fund managers, Program Directors, relationship evangelists, research and analysts, fulfillment, and operations teams, etc. Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence.
- Resource Management: Manage financial resources, budgets, and operational processes to ensure effective implementation of strategies and initiatives.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 20+ years of overall senior leadership experience with wide experiences and proven track record of successfully driving startup support programs, regional expansion, and fund creation.
- Strong understanding in startup dynamics, fund management, investment landscape, investment promotion and regulatory environment in India.
- Leadership and vision in building ecosystems, alliances and high impact collaborations, etc.
- Exceptional interpersonal, communication, negotiation, and networking skills.
- Strategic thinker with a vision and the ability to translate vision into actionable plans and outcomes.
