Sri City is a business city situated 50 km north of the metropolis of Chennai in southern India. It encompasses well-planned and dedicated zones for industry and business services, and a full-fledged social support infrastructure. The industrial park includes a multi-product special economic zone (SEZ), a free trade and warehousing zone (FTWZ), a domestic tariff zone (DTZ), and an electronics manufacturing cluster (EMC). The larger integrated township includes zones for residences, retail, healthcare, and education.
Since its launch, the region has seen presence of more than 16 Japanese investors from industries ranging from automobiles, engineering machinery, personal hygiene, etc.
Andhra Pradesh has been selected as one of the four states in which the Japanese government will team up with the state to develop industrial townships. A MoU in this regard was exchanged between India and Japan in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at a program held at Ahmedabad in September 2017. As per the MoU, a 300 acre industrial township will be developed in Sri City.
