The Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), Taiwan hosted the Taiwan-ASEAN-India Strategic Investment Partnership Forum 2019 in Taipei on 23 July 2019 and in Hsinchu on 24 July 2019. The main objective of the Forum was to provide a platform to the ASEAN countries to pitch the investment opportunity that exists in their countries to the Taiwanese investors and encourage them to setup manufacturing in these countries in the wake of the recent realignment of the global supply chain. Invest India along with senior Government delegates from the states of Punjab and Tamil Nadu participated in the Forum at both the cities and interacted with several Taiwanese investors looking to set up businesses in India or expand their existing footprint in the country. The forum also witnessed participation from senior Government delegations of Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, Philippines and Vietnam.

In Taipei, Mr Deepak Bagla, CEO and Managing Director, Invest India showcased the India investment opportunity to an audience of over 400 Taiwanese investors with a focus on the strides that India is making to improve its EoDB. Further information on the investment landscape and opportunity in India was disseminated to the Taiwanese business community that visited the Invest India booth at the Forum through the day. The booth received a large footfall of both large and mid-sized Taiwanese companies who were keen to learn more about the Indian business environment and sector-specific opportunity. The panel discussion at the forum saw Ms Sai Sudha, Assistant Vice President, Taiwan Plus highlight the opportunity posed by the Smart City Initiative and offered Invest India’s full support to the Taiwanese investors. MOEA also helped arrange several one-one meetings with key Taiwanese players (especially in the ESDM sector) looking to “Make in India” at the Forum.

The Forum in Hsinchu was primarily focused on interacting with small and mid-sized Taiwanese companies specifically in the ESDM and biotech sectors. Ms Mehak Jain and Ms Prajya Sharma from the Taiwan Plus team presented the India investment opportunity with special emphasis on India’s strengths vis-à-vis other ASEAN countries and described the salient features of the Smart City Initiative. The Invest India booth provided an opportunity to resolve specific queries and understand specific investment plans.

The Forum provided an opportunity to further strengthen our engagement with our marquee clients and other key stakeholders from Taiwan besides providing a platform to engage with Taiwanese investors considering India as the preferred place for their investments.
