Startup India hosts a workshop to boost the Innovation Startup ecosystem in Andaman & Nicobar

On 30 December 2018, Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi launched the Innovation and Startup Policy for Andaman & Nicobar Islands, making it the first Union Territory (UT) to have a dedicated policy for startups. Invest India team assisted in drafting the policy and the operating guidelines for effective implementation.

To propel the momentum that was created, the Andaman & Nicobar UT Administration, along with Startup India team organized a one-day workshop at Port Blair on 5 July 2019. The Workshop was attended by as many as 150 startups, students and entrepreneurs. Secretary, Industries, A&N Islands, Shri Indu Shekhar Mishra launched the Startup Website to enable the local startups to apply and gain the benefits offered under the Scheme.

The workshop concluded on a high note with a challenge to pitch business ideas. The pitching session covered ideas from diverse domains, ranging from utilizing ocean resources like seaweeds and sea urchins to creating a platform for servicing of cars and artefacts. The winners will be supported end to end in incorporating their ideas.

With collaboration and support of the UT Administration, the future of entrepreneurship in these beautiful Islands looks promising!
