The 49th World Economic Forum took place between 22 - 25 January 2019, in Davos-Klosters, Switzerland with the theme ‘Shaping a Global Architecture in the Age of the Fourth Industrial Revolution’. This platform remains the foremost creative force for engaging the world’s top leaders in collaborative activities to shape the global, regional and industry agendas. The event has the presence of global leaders from business, government, academia, international organisations, civil society, media and arts. The Annual Meeting is aimed at building meaningful international collaborations to develop a shared narrative to improve the state of the world. The forum hosted more than 400 sessions and provided a platform to more than 2,500 participants from over 100 countries to interact with each other.

The World Economic Forum invited the Indian delegation to participate in a number of sessions at the Kongress Centre during the Annual Meeting. The participation in the sessions ensured the presence of India’s voice in global discussions. These included sessions on manufacturing strategies for globalisation, public-private cooperation on fostering corruption free responsible leadership and trade facilitation.

In addition to the above sessions, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) and Invest India set up an India lounge called the ‘India Investment Centre’ at Davos, where Invest India hosted roundtables across a variety of themes.

India Investment Centre was the primary centre for the Indian presence at Davos and was maintained and managed by the Invest India team. The roundtables acted as a medium to initiate (new) and strengthen (existing) investor relation, attract FDI, facilitate issues of global industry leaders into India. The roundtables saw the participation of over 35 global CEOs and senior industry representatives. The important ones being –

  • Invest India Roundtable co-hosted with PayPal on Developing an Export Economy for MSMEs in India
  • Invest India Roundtable co-hosted with PwC on India: The Global Export Destination

DPIIT also hosted a roundtable discussion over dinner for CEOs of leading global companies. The dinner saw participation of 40 companies across 12 countries and 11 sectors. A number of these companies have indicated strong intentions to invest in India. The dinner was critical in helping these companies to firm up their India investment plans.
