Located in central India, Madhya Pradesh is popularly known as the 'heart of India' and is a beneficiary of mega infrastructure projects, with both North-South and East-West corridor crossing the State.

Madhya Pradesh ranked #8 in the Export Ecosystem Category in Export Preparedness Index 2022.

The state offers excellent support infrastructure for industrial growth. With a total land bank of more than 1.25 Lakh acres, the State contains 96 industrial areas and the state has India’s 1st green-field SEZ in Pithampur which covers total area of 1,114 Ha.

The State is well connected through a network of corridors, a dense road network of more than 3 Lakh km, 5 commercial airports operating 100+ flights and 6 major dry inland container depots (ICDs). 

Madhya Pradesh ranks 1st amongst all the States in Swachh Survekshan 2022 by the Government of India. Indore, the State’s commercial capital, was ranked the cleanest city for the sixth consecutive year.

Madhya Pradesh has a strong base of mineral resources and has the highest number of mines in the country. It is a major producer of limestone, copper, bauxite, manganese ore, phosphorite and iron ore.

Home to 11 agro-climatic zones and more than 45 Lakh Ha of irrigated land, Madhya Pradesh is the leading producer of foodgrains, pulses, oilseeds, vegetables and fruits.

7 times winner of Krishi Karmanya Award, Madhya Pradesh is considered to be India’s Food Basket. The State ranks 1st in production of oranges, spices, garlic, ginger, green chillies, coriander & total pulses. It ranks 2nd in the production of soyabean, wheat, maize, oilseeds, citrus fruits, & onions and ranks 3rd in the production of okra, aromatic, medicinal plants and milk. It also ranks 5th in the production of millets and potatoes.

Automobile and Engineering

Asia’s largest auto testing track – NATRAX is located in Madhya Pradesh

The State houses 10+ original equipment manufacturers, 200+ auto component manufacturers and 2778+ engineering manufacturing units.  

The Pithampur auto cluster, near Indore, is spread across 45,000 hectares and employs 25,000+ people. The State also has skill development institutes such as Indo-German Tool Room at Indore, MSME Technology Centre at Bhopal and Symbiosis University of Applied Sciences at Indore.

Defence

Madhya Pradesh has historical ordnance manufacturing sites of Katni, Jabalpur and Itarsi and presence of companies such as BHEL, L&T, Bharat Forge and PUNJ Lloyd

India is the largest importer of arms in the world, accounting for about 11% of the world’s arms import. The Government of India is aiming to change this by promoting self-reliance and indigenization. Madhya Pradesh provides a ready-made ecosystem for defence manufacturing.

IT/ITeS and ESDM

Madhya Pradesh offers plug and play facilities for IT/ITeS companies in Indore, Bhopal, Gwalior and Jabalpur

The IT, ITeS and ESDM Policy has been unveiled for promoting the sector in the state. With more than 200+ engineering colleges in the state, skilled technical manpower is easily available.

Pharmaceuticals

The state has established pharmaceutical clusters at Indore, Pithampur, Dhar, Dewas, Bhopal and Jabalpur, with Pithampur SEZ being a major manufacturing hub

39 API/ Bulk Drug manufacturing units present in the state. The state also has 170+ pharmacy institutes. Pharmaceuticals industry accounts for 19.26% of exports from Madhya Pradesh in FY 2022-23.

Renewable Energy

Madhya Pradesh has part of India's Green Energy Corridor and the state has ~61.66 GW estimated solar energy potential and ~11 GW of wind power potential (at 120 m, above ground)

The state has one of the largest single-site solar power plants in the world. Madhya Pradesh has the endeavor to transform 20%, 50% and 100% of State level Government Departments as 100% green energy compliant by 2024, 2027 and 2030 respectively, leaving a net zero carbon footprint.

Textiles

The state has 60+ large textile mills, 4,000+ of looms and 2.5 Mn spindles

Indore, Bhopal, Ujjain, Dhar, Dewas, Mandideep, Khandwa, Burhanpur, Gwalior, Chhindwara and Jabalpur are major textile centres in the State. Readymade garment industry cluster at Indore houses 1,200+ units with an Apparel designing center at Indore SEZ. The State is a major producer of cotton.

Tourism

Madhya Pradesh boasts of 24 Wildlife sanctuaries, 11 national parks, 7 tiger reserves, 3 UNESCO world heritage sites and 2 Jyotirlingas

Besides the natural beauty of the wildlife, the state also boasts of splendid structures from the ancient and medieval times. The erotic temples of Khajuraho, gorgeous forts and palaces of Gwalior, unique temples of Ujjain, and extensively engraved buildings of Orchha reveal the rich heritage of Madhya Pradesh.
