To tackle and contain the growing spread of COVID-19 virus and prevent community transmission in the largest and most populous state in India, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath announced on April 8, 2020 complete sealing of the areas that have emerged as hotspots of the coronavirus infection in the state’s 15 districts.

This step has been taken as confirmed number of cases in Uttar Pradesh has gone up to 361. Out of 361 cases, the active number of cases are 326, 31 have recovered while 4 have succumbed to the disease. Looking at the age-wise distribution of Covid-19 cases in the state, it is people between 0-20 years of age who account for 16 per cent of the cases, while patients aged 21-40 years are 44 per cent, 41-60 years olds are 27 per cent among the sick and over 60 years are 13 per cent of the total figure.

The hotspots in these 15 districts will remain sealed till April 15 during which intensive sanitisation work will be undertaken. People in the sealed hotspots will not be allowed to step out of the house for anything. Essential commodities will be delivered at home. People can order groceries and medicines online or through a phone call to the centralised call centre set up by the government. Curfew passes issued in all 15 districts will be reviewed and non-essential passes will be cancelled. Vegetable and fruit markets and any other place where the crowd can possibly gather will be sealed. Anyone trying to enter or exit the sealed area will be booked.
